GSP UK Route and Journey Planner
================================
GENERAL APPLICATION PERFORMANCE
To optimise performance, especially on lower specification computers,it is
strongly recommended that you close all other applications while running
GSP UK Route and Journey Planner
Some programs which are constantly running in the background such as QEMM
memory manager, virus checkers, screen savers and desktop novelties such as
Pet.exe may interfere with the proper running of Route & Journey Planner.
If you experience problems with performance you may wish to disable these
programs to see if that makes a difference.
WINDOWS NT
If you are running GSP UK Route and Journey Planner under Windows NT you may
experience some variations from the documented functionality, especially the
toolbar cursors. This is because the application has not been designed to
specifically support Windows NT.
INSTALLATION
If the GSP UK Route and Journey Planner fails to install properly or hangs
part way through the installation, check that you have enough space on your
hard drive.
It may also fail if your hard drive has become very fragmented, in which
case running a defragmentation program should create enough contiguous space
for it to install correctly.
DISK SECTOR SIZE
Due to the way in which Windows allocates disk space, especially on larger
hard drives (1 Gb and over) this application may take up more space than
indicated in the installation dialog.
MICROSOFT PLUS!
If you are using Microsoft Plus! you may experience map redraw problems when
moving dialog boxes. To prevent this problem enter "Video Properties" in
Windows 95, click on the "Plus!" tab and ensure that the "Show window screen
contents while dragging" box is un-checked.
PRINTING PROBLEMS
If you have printing problems the best solution is to acquire the latest
print drivers from your printer manufacturer.
These should be available from your printer supplier or for download from
the web. e.g. see Hewlett Packard's website at:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/indexes1/prhome.html
http://www.hp-laserjet-solutions.com/
If you are having problems printing from within the application because you
have an old version of the drivers, you can still print maps or text by
copying and pasting them into another application using 'copy to clipboard'
from the Edit menu.
Attempting to print from Windows 95 OSR2 when you have no printer configured
may crash the application. If you wish to print, ensure your printer is
connected and configured correctly and restart. Otherwise just restart the
application.
If you get an error message starting "Spool 32..." when attempting to print
maps from Win'95 you need to set your printer up to print directly to the
printer rather than spooling the output. This error message may also indicate
a conflict with fax, answer machine or virus checking software.
If route highlights or other features are faint or not visible on the map
printout you should be able to optimise this using your print setup/print
quality settings to print at higher or lower quality.
MAP DISPLAY PROBLEMS/PROGRAM LOCKS WHEN ZOOMING IN
A conflict with older versions of drivers for graphics cards (in particular
ATI cards) may cause the map to display with unwanted blocks or stripes, or
may even cause the system to lock up when it tries to zoom in on the map.
This can usually be fixed by changing the colour depth to 24bit or True
Colour. If this does not work, you will need to get the latest version of
the driver for your graphics card. This should be available free from your
card manufacturer or supplier, or via their web site.
For ATI Mach64 graphics cards these drivers are included in the \Drivers\ATI\
folder on this CD-ROM:
Windows 95 - version 2.22
- version 3.03, 1535Kb for the PCI bus PC only
INTELLIPOINT MOUSE
If you are using an Intellipoint mouse, this may cause the program to hang
during map drawing or when you move the mouse. To resolve this problem,
you need to edit your WIN.INI file to remove the line.
load = c:\msinput\pointer.exe
This should enable Route and Journey Planner to run smoothly, but it may
reduce the features available from your Intellipoint mouse.
GAPS IN THE DRAWN ROUTE
GSP UK Route and Journey Planner may occasionally fail to highlight the
entire route requested. This is usually due to the route including a small
place, such as a village, on an unclassified road which cannot be
highlighted. The route text will be complete even if the drawn route has
gaps.
NO ROUTE POSSIBLE MESSAGE
If you are using avoids, vias or other restrictions it is possible to create
situations where no valid route can be generated. Switch off the restrictions
and re-calculate the route.
ROUTEING TO ISLANDS
GSP UK Route and Journey Planner does not contain ferry connection details
for Scilly Isles, Isle of Man, Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands, it is
therefore not possible to create routes involving these islands.
UNINSTALL MESSAGE
If you un-install GSP UK Route and Journey Planner you may get the message
that some files could not be deleted. This refers to the directory
c:\journey, any *.trp files that you have created while using the
application and the GSP directory if you have any other GSP products
installed.
